Hey guys! I’m Becky and welcome to my new blog. I’ve been wanting to start something like this for a while now and to be honest, there is never going to be a perfect time to start. So, here we go.
I am 28 years old and the only debt I have is my mortgage with bachelor’s degrees in business administration and human resource management. I’ve been investing in stocks and peer to peer lending since 2013. With that, I have been developing a long-term dividend investment account that is currently valued around $17,000. That is of course, after the Coronavirus Crash this spring.
I spent over 5 years active duty in the United States Army and now I’m working full time in HR. I started out as an intern and one of the questions I was first asked was, “what do you want to be when you grow up?“ Which I responded with, “I just want to be happy.” This naturally sparked smiles and odd looks but it was honest. I didn’t know where exactly I was headed, I just knew that I wanted that balance with work and family and fun.
As the weeks turned into months and then years, I found that I felt like a hamster just running in circles on a wheel. I knew that I wanted the freedom to choose how I spent my time and the option to choose what I worked on. I investigated other career fields, and nothing appealed to me. I knew I wanted to help people and have always been passionate about finance and well, here we are!
So, I ask you this…
How would your goals and lifestyle choices change if you could no longer retire? It is a fear that almost everyone has, and for some it is their reality. The adage of pensions and Social Security are almost all gone. People struggle to retire or by the time they can, it’s too late to enjoy the golden years.
I want to get you set up to be able to decide what or how you really want to spend your time. Some people love to work, the teamwork, the structure of it. Others would rather travel or try new foods or stay home and be with their kids. This is not and will never be a one size fits all. This site is a start for your foundation to build from. Whether you are in your 20s and just starting to find yourself or you are headed into your Golden years, the foundation is still the same.
I do not want to spend the next 30 to 40 years of my life burned out, waiting to retire at 65. I am assuming neither do you.
