I have a self-directed brokerage account with Ally. My overall goal is for my portfolio to function as a long-term dividend growth account that generates around $2,000 per month in dividends.
My Stock Portfolio Diversification Strategy
My diversification strategy is broken-down by these different sectors and areas –
My excel sheet updates the percentages so I can easily see how I need to rebalance my portfolio. It also updates my dividends earned by each sector. You can see my average dividend yield is 3.83% and my 12 month yield would be $1,263.85. Which breaks down to about $105.32 every month (on average).
2023 Stock Portfolio Overview –
We closed out the year of 2023 with the portfolio increasing from a measly $28,912 to over $33.090!!! The overall value increased by 14.54% with a gain of about $4,178! Looking at the year we have had, I am not pleasantly surprised by how the market turned around in the final two months! For all of 2023 the S&P 500 gained about 24%!
In total, I made $1,199.33 from dividends this year! To find out more about my monthly dividend income, check out my monthly updates where I breakdown how much I earn from each company!

Rebalancing My Portfolio 2023 –

My portfolio had some rebalancing that was outside of my control… Store Capital (STOR) was acquired by GIC and Oak Street for 15 Billion Dollars. All shares were purchased for $32.25 a piece and I said goodbye to a great REIT.

I made the difficult decision in December to sell off my shares of Hormel Foods (HRL). 2 large inside holders of the stock sold off more than 92,000 shares each. The stock price naturally decreased and will for the next little while. I really do like this company! And, I plan on investing back into them soon. I sold my three shares at a loss to combat my taxes and to hopefully make a good flip when I invest back into the company soon.

Breaking Down All My Individual Stock Holdings
Speaking of individual stocks, its time for the total transparency! Right now, I am invested into 65 different companies spread out through the various sectors.
Apple (AAPL) holds the biggest percentage of my portfolio at just over 9.3%. With second place going to Broadcom Inc (AVGO) and third to Costco (COST) with 6.75% and 5.99% respectively.
Now, I am not saying to follow my lead and invest in every single one of these stocks with this specific strategy. This information is just to help educate you on what my personal portfolio looks like. This strategy is not for everyone. For most people, I would say stick to mutual funds, ETF’s and target date funds so you don’t have to do the manual labor of rebalancing and reinvesting your money for years and years. I just personally love getting my fingers into the market and having fun with my nerdy side. So, I hope you learned something, and you keep investing towards your future in whatever way that looks like for you!
