I have a self-directed brokerage account with Ally. My overall goal is for my portfolio to function as a long-term dividend growth account that generates around $2,000 per month in dividends.

My Stock Portfolio Diversification Strategy
My diversification strategy is broken-down by these different sectors and areas –

My excel sheet updates the percentages so I can easily see how I need to rebalance my portfolio. It also updates my dividends earned by each sector. You can see my average monthly dividend yield is 3.25% and my 12 month yield would be $1,296.48. Which breaks down to about $108.04 every month (on average).

2024 Stock Portfolio Overview –
We closed out the year of 2024 with the portfolio increasing from a measly $33,090 in 2023 to over $39,941.50!!! The overall value increased by 19.32% with a gain of about $6,850! Looking at the year we have had, I am very happy with how my portfolio performed! For all of 2024 the S&P 500 gained about 25%!

In total, I made $1,235.77 from dividends this year! To find out more about my monthly dividend income, check out my monthly updates where I breakdown how much I earn from each company!

Rebalancing My Portfolio 2024 –
I purchased 65 new shares of stock from 10 different companies. Lets take a look at what they were!
Ticker Symbol | Number of Shares | – | Ticker Symbol | Number of Shares |
---|---|---|---|---|
CCI | 1 | – | OHI | 2 |
D | 1 | – | PFE | 1 |
EMN | 3 | – | RITM | 20 |
NLY | 18 | – | SIRI | 12 |
O | 5 | – | STAG | 4 |
My portfolio had some rebalancing that was outside of my control… West Rock (WRK) joined teams with Smurfit WestRock (SW). All my existing shares were transitioned to three SW shares which I then sold for $47.88 a piece. Also, I was given $15 from the transition as well.
Because I needed a little additional cash to remodel my new rental property, I sold a few shares of stock in August and September. The first company to go completely was Boeing (BA). I have held on to this single stock for a long time now. However, the company does not pay out a dividend and my focus is on dividend producing companies… So, I sold my one share of BA for $168.03.
Next to go was a single share of Apple (AAPL). Apple is a tech company known for its market value increases and that is exactly what it does in my portfolio! Because it focuses so much on research and development, the dividend yield is very small. Making it a good candidate to cut for my rental investment. I sold one share of AAPL for $216.39 in August.
Lastly, Broadcom Inc (AVGO) was the last two shares that I sold this year. AVGO is also in the tech sector and has had great market value returns. It also happens to be one of my highest dividend paying companies but, the tech sector has done very well and is heavily out performing other sectors. To rebalance my portfolio reducing another tech stock was the best move for me. I sold two shares of AVGO for $166.73 each in September.
Cash Withdrawals From My Portfolio
Since I sold off a few shares of stock to put money towards my rental property, I ended up withdrawing quite a bit of money from my portfolio this year. In total, I withdrew $1,109.69 from my portfolio in 2024. My hope was to put that same amount back in my the end of the year but alas… that did not happen.

Breaking Down All My Individual Stock Holdings
Speaking of individual stocks, its time for the total transparency! Right now, I am invested into 65 different companies spread out through the various sectors.
Broadcom Inc (AVGO) holds the biggest percentage of my portfolio at just over 10.45%. With second place going to Apple (AAPL) and third to Costco (COST) with 9.4% and 6.88% respectively.

Now, I am not saying to follow my lead and invest in every single one of these stocks with this specific strategy. This information is just to help educate you on what my personal portfolio looks like. This strategy is not for everyone. For most people, I would say stick to mutual funds, ETF’s and target date funds so you don’t have to do the manual labor of rebalancing and reinvesting your money for years and years. I just personally love getting my fingers into the market and having fun with my nerdy side. So, I hope you learned something, and you keep investing towards your future in whatever way that looks like for you!
