I have a self-directed brokerage account with Ally. My overall goal is for my portfolio to function as a long-term dividend growth account that generates around $2,000 per month in dividends.
My Stock Portfolio Diversification Strategy
My diversification strategy is broken-down by these different sectors and areas –
My excel sheet updates the percentages so I can easily see how I need to rebalance my portfolio. It also updates my dividends earned by each sector. You can see my average dividend yield is 3.96% and my 12 month yield would be $1,146.74. Which breaks down to about $95.56 every month (on average).
2022 Stock Portfolio Overview –
We closed out the year of 2022 with the portfolio dropping from $30,940 to $28,912. The overall value decreased by 4.58% with a loss of about $2,027. Looking at the year we have had, I am not disappointed with how my portfolio performed. For all of 2022 the S&P 500 lost 19.44%!
In total, I made $1,121.50 from dividends this year! To find out more about my monthly dividend income, check out my monthly updates where I breakdown how much I earn from each company!

My portfolio had some rebalancing that was outside of my control… Preferred Apartment Communities (APTS) in no longer a publicly traded company and my 2 shares were bought back from me at $25 each. Shares of Haleon Plc (HLN) and Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) were grandfathered to me as part of GSK Plc (GSK) and AT&T (T) stock splits. And Annaly Capital Management (NLY) did a 4 to 1 reverse of their shares and the remaining extra shares (fractions of shares) were paid back in cash.

Breaking Down All My Individual Stock Holdings
Speaking of individual stocks, its time for the total transparency! Right now, I am invested into 66 different companies spread out through the various sectors.
Apple (AAPL) holds the biggest percentage of my portfolio at just over 7%. With second place going to UnitedHealth Group (UNH) and third to Costco (COST) with 5.5% and 4.7% respectively.
Now, I am not saying to follow my lead and invest in every single one of these stocks with this specific strategy. This information is just to help educate you on what my personal portfolio looks like. This strategy is not for everyone. For most people, I would say stick to mutual funds, ETF’s and target date funds so you don’t have to do the manual labor of rebalancing and reinvesting your money for years and years. I just personally love getting my fingers into the market and having fun with my nerdy side. So, I hope you learned something, and you keep investing towards your future in whatever way that looks like for you!
