August was a roller coaster for me. My workload picked up with the COVID surge and I finally made the decision to walk away. On August 2nd I submitted a four week notice of my resignation. Needless to say, it went over about how I expected, at first nothing was really said. No phone calls, no conversations about why or trying to change my mind. Then almost two weeks after the fact, on a Sunday morning my boss calls my cell and asks if she woke me up. Whelp… sadly I was working on my “9-5” job on a Sunday morning. She gave me essentially 24 hours to take an offer to stay on full time for 2 more months.
I then countered their offer with part-time for the next 2 months which was verbally accepted. It is now the beginning of September and I still have nothing in writing about the verbal commitments made… I have unofficially transitioned from working “40 hours a week” in an exempt/salaried status to working 20 hours a week.
I am scared of what might happen, but I am so excited for what could be! I have big plans for this website and starting a podcast and chasing my photography dreams. It is a calculated risk that could fail or… I could succeed with my goals! I have a game plan, and a backup plan and a second fall back plan after that. I have a safety net of money to cover 6 months of my expenses without breaking a sweat. So, for me and where I am at right now in life, it is time to go all in. I’ve seen a sale on prints or stock images, 6 out of the last 7 months. Any, I’m seeing the numbers continue to grow of people viewing my website, Pinterest, Youtube and all that. And, I have the safety net of my savings and lime scooters where I can earn income as needed.
My biggest factor is time. Time to put in the work and really start grinding to get this all where I know it can go. I don’t have any kids or family to provide for and it’s time for me to take this risk because, I might not get another shot to really go for it. I lost count of the number of people who talked about missing their chance to do this and now are regretting it in their 40s or 50s. It is time to really give this a fair shot! And, the best part is you get to come along for the ride!
As far as personal updates go here is where my stock portfolio is at –
My goal for my stock portfolio is function as a long-term dividend account. My diversification strategy is broken-down by different sectors and areas. I try and stay close to this breakdown – The majority of my dividends come from the Real Estate Sector and the Finance Sector.
My portfolio is finally over $29,000! And, that will continue to keep growing as I reinvest the dividends and the stock value themselves increase with the market growth.
I made over $70 in dividends! However, due to some technical issues… I did not purchase any stocks in August. So, I have over $100 just waiting to be invested! And… due to the craziness of August, I did not charge any Lime scooters! So, we will pick that back up in September and keep charging forward! (hehe…charging forward, get it?)
I have had some requests for various video topics and one that deals primary with projects at my personal home. So, let me show you what I am working on right now! The first thing is to finish painting my home gym! Woot woot!
Then, its time to work on the shed, yard and front stump! And there is plenty of work to go around!!
Goals for 2021 –
- Be present! At work and in my personal life I find myself rushing to get from A to B to C. I am guilty of cutting phone calls short or trying to multitask through meetings and even conversations. I want to focus on slowing things down and being present with every person I interact with.
- Spend more time pursuing Photography! It is one of my passions in life and something that I truly enjoy! I have been working on getting my travel blog up and running but as of now, that is all past trips I have already taken and thought others would enjoy. I want to plan out a new adventure for this year… or maybe a couple!
- Also related to photography, I want to focus more time on creating images specifically for stock photography websites. This will hopefully be a long term passive income stream that just keeps on giving little bits and pieces back.
- Working on training my puppy! We have gotten through potty training and know sit but, we really need to work on leash pulling, not jumping and some more basic manners. We all have to start somewhere!
